make fufu tee www.seekproject.com

29.09.10. I recently got a "Make fufu* not war" t shirt (image above) from Kwabena Boateng. Kwabena runs Kayobi Clothing "an apparel and accessories company created to tell the African story and that of the Diaspora through positive, vibrant and thought provoking imagery". Set in bold type and color reminiscent of propaganda style imagery, the t-shirt's design is an African spin on the ''make love not war'' slogan conceived of by Gershon Legman and made popular by Penelope and Franklin Rosemont amongst others. The t-shirt's simple design bears an effective sociological message that highlights the link between starvation and conflict and it also stresses the importance of community and conflict resolution through the satisfaction of man's primal need for food. Truly a hungry man may be an angry man so instead of fighting, transfer some of that energy into making some fufu, set a table, eat and talk things over.

The Make Fufu not War tee can be gotten here.

12.05.10.
It feels good to be back on this space. Keeping with the spirit of accessibility and visibility that I stand for, I set up an online store for my work on Artsprojekt. Artsprojekt is a division of Zazzle.com, an online service that enables artists to make their work available on everyday commercial products. They handle the production, distribution of the products the artists create and the artists get a percentage from products ordered from their store. The good thing is there is a wide range of products to chose form and you also get to determine the price of your products and conversely the percentage you get on them.

Its a good way to get one's feet wet in the world of online retailing and marketing. My Artsprojekt store presently consists of t-shirts and a print . The store can be seen here:

I got to know of Rob Walker's book: BUYING IN, through a review of it done by L.A based clothing line The HUNDREDS. The book explores the link between our personalities as consumers and the brands we buy. It gives valuable insight into how brands are been formed and how marketing is evolving in the current technological and cultural landscape we live in. The book profiles some of the most visible and endearing brands around right now( apple, RedBull. Livestrong) and makes for an informative read. Copies can be got from Amazon.

The Dip

23.07.09. I just got through with reading The Dip( cover above) by Seth Godin. In the book, Seth challenges the widely held belief that quiting is a sign of failure and fear. He makes a case for quiting as a strategy for success in clear, concise terms. Quiting the things that are not important in other to free up energy and resources to tackle the important ones. I personally relate with all Seth has got to say in the book as I have made several quit decisions. In his words, "you'll never be number one at anything without picking your shots carefully" and picking shots involves quiting. "Seth Godin doesn't claim to have all the answers. But he will teach you how to ask the right questions". Its a great book to read and a short one too. The book has got illustrations by Hugh Macleod. Awesome!.
